Deep in the heart of Washington, DC, there’s a forest called Rock Creek Park. In the forest, there is a building called Peirce Mill. It was built in the 1820s, on the corner of Tilden St and Beach Drive NW. It is no longer used as a mill to ground corn, wheat, and rye. Spanky the Beaver introduces us to the park with a story: Pierce Mill is now Albert the Skunk’s new home and lives with him. When Albert goes out to make new friends, he gets bullied by the animals because he is a skunk. They call him stinky. However, Albert wants to make friends and finds the opportunity when a pack of coyotes is about to hunt the animals in the creek.
